OKANO
These paintings are called “Islands.”
Atsumi Okano was born in one of the southern islands in Japan and moved to different places.
Her memories are tied to each land.
She made these hexagonal columns and painted all the surfaces because if she brings the hexagonal shapes together, they can fill the space without gaps.
For this installation, viewers are invited to the space to move these paintings as they wanted.
There is no upside or downside and it is stackable.
These two images are the same artwork but are shown in different spaces.
The left image is six pieces stacked as one painting. Even though these are the same piece, their form keeps changing according to the spaces.
